Managed Firewall – Host-based

For the servelet or Virtual Machine hosted in SimplerCloud, software can be used to deploy basic firewall protection. Managed Firewall (Host-Based) is a managed service provided by SimplerCloud to manage the host-based firewall service on your servelets, namely iptables for Linux and Windows Firewall for Windows.

This managed firewall is suitable for customers who install custom applications that require certain port configurations, who are not familiar with IP tables or firewall configuration management, or would just like to outsource the management and configuration of these services. This service is suitable for all SimplerCloud server solutions: Simple servelets, Virtual Private Cloud, Dedicated Servers

Included in the service:

• Management of firewall rules/security policies for the host-based firewall service
• Up to 20 firewall rules/security policy changes per month

Requirements:

• Managed Firewall Rule requests change are submitted through the official web form
• SimplerCloud engineers will need root/administrator access to customer’s servelets to be able to manage the host-based firewall service within the servelet.
• The service is only applicable for servelets hosted in SimplerCloud’s cloud infrastructure.

Fee: $30/month

Hardware – Shared Managed Firewall

In addition to host-based managed firewall service, which is configured on the server level, SimplerCloud also provides network-based managed firewall service, using a hardware-based firewall appliance. In a shared managed firewall solution, multiple users share the use of a single hardware firewall appliance. A shared managed firewall service is one where your server(s) sits behind a FortiGate hardware-based firewall appliance in the SimplerCloud network.

Unlike server-based firewall solutions, hardware firewalls allow you to deploy full network-based firewall solutions. A hardware firewall is situated between your network and the Internet. Your server(s) sit behind the firewall, which is configured to manage the traffic between the Internet and your server, preventing unauthorized use and access to your server’s applications.

With shared managed firewalls, the firewall appliance shares the same DMZ/internal network with other servers sharing this service. Your server is protected from the Internet, but will not be protected from other customer’s servers on the same firewall subnet.

You can select two type of shared managed firewall services:

A. Standard firewall security policy

Standardized firewall security policies allow for common Internet ports used by popular Internet services such as email, web, FTP will be opened, while the rest will be closed.

Included in the service:

– Standard firewall rules / security policy to protect your server.
– SMTP, POP3, IMAP, HTTP, HTTPS and FTP ports will be opened, the rest will be closed.

B. Customised firewall security policy

Users set customised firewall security policies according to their requirements. You can decide which ports you want to open and which ones you want to close, and we will then setup and configure the customised rules based on IP address.

Included in the service:

– Management of the firewall rules / security policies for your server (based on IP address).
– Up to 10 firewall rules / security policy per IP.
– Up to 20 firewall rules / security policy changes per month.

Requirements:

– Managed Firewall Rule requests change are submitted through the official web form.
– This service is only applicable for dedicated servers or co-location services hosted in SimplerCloud.

Hardware – Dedicated Managed Firewall

Our dedicated manage firewall service is also a network-based managed firewall service using a hardware-based firewall appliance. Unlike the shared managed firewall plans, where the firewall appliance is shared by multiple users, a dedicated firewall provides protection for a single customer’s servers and network.

With dedicated managed firewalls, users have one-to-one firewall appliances for their server(s) or network. They provide protection to single users, unlike shared firewalls, whose functionality is shared by multiple users.

With shared managed firewalls, the firewall appliance shares the same DMZ/internal network with other servers using the same firewall, so users are protected from the Internet, but will not be protected from other customer’s servers on the same firewall subnet.

With dedicated managed firewalls, you will have your own DMZ and/or internal networks being protected by the firewall from the Internet and other users. You can have unlimited number of rules / security policies in the firewall depending on the requirements, and also have the flexibility of selecting your preferred firewall model available (Sonicwall, Fortigate, Watchguard).

– No limit on the number of firewall rules / security policies.
– Up to 20 firewall rules / security policy changes per month.

Requirements:

– This service is only applicable for dedicated servers or co-location services hosted in SimplerCloud.

All firewall appliances are managed by SimplerCloud and come with hardware service agreements

Hardware firewall solutions are available for co-location, dedicated server and private cloud customers.
